stone valley games update 210418

Weekly Store Update: 18 April

What a fantastic week here at Stone Valley Games! We've had an impressive influx of new games and restocks that kept us as busy as these Spring bees buzzing around here, and we've added a fistful of preorders as well. Check out our Board Game Giveaway going on right now, and we have other news you might be interested in too!

INTRO

It's Eric here, and I hope our weekly update finds you holding firmly onto that First Player Token, though personally I play mostly solo so I don't have too much difficulty there...most of the time. In any case I'm your adequately capable guide, and for those new to our newsletter this top portion is our shop news. However, if you want to skip me waxing poetic you can jump down to the bottom of the post and see the restocks, new items, and preorders we laid in last week. Though...you may want to hang on for the next piece to find out about the Board Game Giveaway.

BOARD GAME GIVEAWAY

Top News this week is we have a Board Game Giveaway going on right now! CLICK HERE to go to the sign in page and find out more about it. Solosaurus has joined forces with us to bring you the chance to win a free review copy of Viscounts of the West Kingdom! Viscounts scores in the 8's on Board Game Geek and has an exceptional solo player mode for a 1 - 4 player game. Harken back to medieval times in this, the third of the "West Kingdom" games and enjoy many great in-game actions including Deck Building and use of a Modular Board; plus there's Rondel action, Set Collection, and Variable Player Powers too! Also know that none of the other West Kingdom games are required to enjoy this one!

LOOMING PRICE INCREASE

We received word from Dan Verssen Games (DVG), who are behind several wildly popular wargames that we carry, that there's an imminent price increase. Dan explained that when paper good prices went up a few years ago they were able to absorb the increase, but materials have recently spiked again and this time they can only do so much. So, they're looking at a $10 increase on all of their games with a current MSRP of $59.99 and above. This increase will take place in May, so if you've been looking at Castle Itter, Pavlov's House, By Stealth and Sea, For What Remains, or any of DVG's other board games that we carry you might want to jump on them now.

THE INFLUX SAGA CONCLUDES!

For those who have been following over the last few weeks we've been discussing our primary distributor's cryptic message hinting about being ready for a big shipment, and darned if he didn't turn out to be right! Now, it's not the record influx that we thought it might be, but at over 40 titles it is the largest this year! Funny thing, there's actually a part of the shipment that was held up and was supposed to be here on Friday that would have made this even more impressive. Hey, no worries though, it's just more for next week!

SHOW ME

One of the things about running a small business is that there's always something that needs to be done. As the months have marched on we continue to refine our processes and workflow to make tasks easier to accomplish. However, at the same time we have been expanding operations to match that efficiency. Bottom line, some things not directly tied to customers or sales have taken a back seat - and my video production is at the top of that short list. Now, I have one significant project in front of me - to make Magic the Gathering playable starter decks for new players. I'm working with a few hundred thousand cards and need to separate them, sort them, design fun and thematic decks based on the cards I have, and then build the decks. I've just finished Red, and that took about six weeks of working on it when I could... Anyway, once that major project is done I don't have any more significant projects lined up until we break ground on the physical store. In the meantime I plan on shooting some instructional videos, but gameplay is going to have to wait until that gap between building the decks and starting on the store. Video is an important part of our future, but we need to get our present straight first. It's all about having a plan!

Eric, what is the “First Player Token?”

    • Stone Valley on April 18, 2021 at 7:25 pm

Stanley, several games that have come out over the last few years have a special token to indicate who the ‘first player’ is in the game. In my intro I was trying to use it as a bit of an inside joke that, as a solo player, I’m always the first player. Maybe not so funny? In any case, that’s my story and I’m sticking to it 😀
