Weekly Store Update: 30 May

Trust me when I say that the landscape of coding has changed just a "little bit" since my heyday of HTML scripting from the early thru upper 90's, when my life then went in a different direction. I also did some BASIC, Visual Basic and dabbled in MUDs and MOOs back when games were much less graphic focused. Good times! So, I have a general understanding, which is what allowed us to get the webstore off the ground. However, as most things are fundamentally different from back then, it has become a crash course in brain surgery. Well, our long time readers know we signed up with a company called WP Tech Support several months ago. Since then they have been tinkering, I've been throwing them things to work on, and generally they have been fantastic. If you're thinking this is a paid advertisement, I would tell you that up front. This is just a happy customer. As owning a small business is a lot of trial and error in so many different ways, we firmly believe sharing is fundamental for all of us. It’s not other small businesses you need to be worrying about! So, straight up, these folks are legit. As you can see from the photo above I think we've got the webstore right where we want it. There is still work to do for mobile devices... actually, owning a website is like a garden, there's always weeding to do! This, however, is a fantastic accomplishment that I could not have figured out by myself. 

MEMORIAL DAY

I am a veteran, and weekends like this bring back memories. I do not ‘live’ in that time mind you, it helped shape me like farming did before and contracting after. I’m too focused on moving forward to be stamped by any one aspect of my life. In any case, I retired from the military having served during peacetime and war. Not all my friends made it back though. It is so strange... Years have passed since I've been with them, but sometimes it feels like minutes. Memories of laughter and time spent together, quiet moments too, are just as fresh and vivid as ever. I have never been one to linger on the end, I am way more interested in celebrating life, the impacts they made that changed the world - even if in a tiny way. The flap of butterfly wings. Unlike a lot of my brothers and sisters in arms who are more stoic, for me Memorial Day is a celebration. I am not celebrating the sacrifice or lives lost...I'm celebrating the enduring result of those sacrifices. I am truly blessed to have a wonderful family, lifelong friends, a thriving business, and the freedoms inherent in all of it. I will take a moment this weekend to remember my brothers and sisters who did not make it home, and I will hold them in my heart. Then I will light up that grill and bring them with me to the party.
