stone valley games update 210815

Weekly Store Update: 15 August

This might have been the largest single weekly influx of games we've ever had! Yes, there's a shake-up here at Stone Valley Games and we can't wait to tell you about it! Not only games new to us, but we've also added restocks, a few preorders, and we've drawn the winner of our latest giveaway!

INTRO

Well, hello there! I'm Eric, and I own and operate Stone Valley Games with my wife Wendy. If this is your first iteration, welcome to our weekly newsletter! This top portion is our shop news. However, if you want to skip all of that you can slide down to the bottom of the post and see the restocks, new items, and preorders we laid in last week.

BOARD GAME GIVEAWAY IS COMPLETE

That's a wrap! Our August giveaway is in the books, and I'm happy to say we've been keeping on pace for giving away something every month. This time we thought a bit outside the box with the Lord of the Rings card game, which included the base game, the entire first arch, sleeves for everything, and a storage solution. While I'm sure we'll continue to give games away, that was kind of fun, and folks seemed to like the concept.

In any case, we drew the winner's name and it is Samuel P. from Hillsborough, North Carolina! Congratulations Samuel! It's so exciting, and you have to know we just love packing up that giveaway box!

OPEN TO THE PUBLIC

This is something we had been keeping on the down-low in case it didn't pan out, but since early June we started opening up to the public to browse and purchase the games in-store. With the state of the pandemic here in Alabama we've since gone to an appointment system. However, it has been an absolutely wonderful success! We were busy before, but with the foot traffic it has been gangbusters! We've even had customers from as far away as Baton Rouge. Of course they were swinging thru heading somewhere else, but it was a fun pitstop for all involved!

Here's a photo of of one of the board game rooms to give you an idea:

While things are running okay, as with everything else I still have work to do. First thing is getting the appointment system into a digital format. I'm deciding between hosting it on the website, running it thru Facebook, or attaching it to our store on Google. I just wish there was something that integrated all of them! Each one has its pros and cons, and I may start with one and switch to another after some experimentation.

Bottom line, if you're local and want to check out the shop just give us a call during business hours and we will set it up! Maybe soon you can skip the call and just make an appointment online - but it's all good with us either way!

WHAT? MULTIPLAYER ONLY GAMES?!

It's almost as if can hear you exclaim that after you checked out the new games we laid in last week. After all, you know us as one of the, if not the only retailer that specializes in games with solo player modes. Well, one of the very first things we realized when we opened up to the public was that there were a ton of requests for more family and party games. So, as you can see in our new games added this week...we've scratched that itch.

Don't fret though, we haven't lost our groove. We don't plan on expanding much outside of these titles, at least for the foreseeable future. These games include some of the most popular family and party games. More importantly, at least to me, is that if you tell me what you like, how many family members or friends you have, and their ages, and I can point you to a title fairly easily. It's all good!

You know us though, old habits die hard...so we went ahead and added solo variants to all the titles that could be played solo. Some of the titles even have official publisher solo variants that you might not have heard about. We included all that information on the individual product pages. At the end of the day though, less than 1% of our games 'cannot' be played solo...so I think we're still okay 😀 I consider that taking care of...everyone.

HEROES BACK ON DUTY

Our long time customers have been following along with our ebb and flow when it comes to Marvel Champions the Card Game. There were continual changes in everything from policy to distributors, and we were off again and on again until ultimately we were locked out. However, we have been reinstated! We've restocked the packs we've missed out on and have listed a few preorders as well. As the preorders pop up we'll keep adding them. As you have probably noticed, there is always a bit of a gap between when FF shows them on their site and when the are available for preorder. In any case, this has been a long running situation that I am more than happy to see in our review mirror! Perseverance has paid off, and I'd like to thank you for your patience and support as we worked through it!
