Weekly Store Update: 15 May
From riding dinosaurs to swords and sorcery in far flung fantasy settings thru the renaissance and capped off with a zombie-filled future, a myriad of games hit this week! We're in cardboard heaven! We also drew the winner of our May board game giveaway and have other news to share too. Come on in and check it out!
INTRO
Welcome to our weekly newsletter! For our new readers I'm Eric, and Wendy and I run Stone Valley Games. This newsletter is our way to share both local and world-wide gaming news of interest that popped up last week. It also provides our subscribers, both local and remote, some information on the going's on around here so everyone feels like part of the action. At the bottom of this newsletter we show you the restocks, new items, and preorders added to the store last week. All in all it's not too difficult to navigate, so let's get to it!
BOARD GAME GIVEAWAY RESULTS
Our May board game giveaway is over! For the month of May we gave away the Kickstarter version of Ignite, valued at over $120!
Ignite is a combination of tactical combat, deck building, and miniatures game. Between the variably built board, unique race abilities, and the multitude of available cards, every game of Ignite is vastly different!
The lucky winner was Brandon T. from Hermitage, Tennessee! Congratulations Brandon! You're sure to get a lot of deckbuilding, miniatures battling fun out of this one!
Hey, if you didn't win this time around, no worries - there's always another chance. We will continue our monthly giveaway and you'll have another opportunity in June!

GAMING MOMS REPRESENT
As you are well aware, last weekend we celebrated the moms in our lives with Mother's Day. We set up a flash special for Mother's Day and only mentioned it here in our newsletter. The Newsletter hits about 30 minutes before the store opens, so not a lot of time to react.
Well, let me say that there is a wonderful population of gaming moms in the Huntsville area and many of them decided to stop in and take advantage of our special. We couldn't be happier!
If you pay attention to the loudest aspects of social media, it may seem that board gaming is nothing more than a masculine-filled testosterone-rich hobby. While I cannot speak to the entire industry, I am happy to report that in our local sales I'd weigh things quite in the middle. Actually, couples and families make up a large percentage of those enjoying the board game hobby. It is much more of a diverse population of board gamers here than what I'm reading about on the internet. Doesn't make sense though...I thought everything on the internet was accurate...
STORE HOURS ADJUSTMENT
We've recently adjusted our store hours. I believe the new hours will be more convenient for our in-store customers and easier to remember overall. Previously we were closed Monday and Wednesday and our weekend hours and weekday hours were different. Well, to build some synergy we're now going to have the store closed to foot traffic on Tuesday and Wednesday and our store hours for every day we're open is now 12:30 to 6:30 PM. That might be easier for everyone to remember.
To correspond with the hour's adjustment, we've updated both Google and our own site to reflect.
Another quick note for our in-store shoppers. We always wipe things down, even before COVID, so there aren't any adjustments there. However, we follow the CDC's guidance on masks. We wear masks as long as Madison County is labeled as Substantial or High Transmission for COVID. That's for us though, we do not require our guests to wear masks.
JASON'S BEEN BUSY
We sponsor Meeple, Myself and I hosted by Jason Montgomery. It's a podcast that focuses on solo board game play. Jason is a one man show, and his style is not like anything else out there in the board game community. His vast experience, humor, and introspection make this a must listen.

In any case, he received an early copy of the new solo expansion for Root titled Clockwork Expansion 2, so decided to give it a whirl. Click to check out his review of Clockwork Expansion 2 here.
But that's not all! As you may know, Jason has a much larger backlog in his written reviews on Board Game Geek, which is where he started long before he ever thought of running a podcast. Recently Jason also wrote a review on his solo play experience for the board game Cascadia. Click to check out his review of Cascadia here.
Again, his experience and insight can really help guide you through the myriad of board games with a solo mode out there. Enjoy!
