Weekly Store Update: 19 May

It's been a bit of a whirlwind most of this week, so not too much outside of normal day-to-day to talk about. However, early in the week we were able to assemble some of those Star Wars: Shatterpoint miniatures. Take a look at what we've done! There are great new products and restock to show you too. Check it out!

INTRO

Welcome to our weekly newsletter! For our new readers I'm Eric, and Wendy and I run Stone Valley Games. This newsletter is our way to share both local and world-wide gaming news of interest that popped up last week. It also provides our subscribers, both local and remote, some information on the going's on around here so everyone feels like part of the action. At the bottom of this newsletter we show you the restocks, new items, and preorders added to the store last week. It's not too difficult to navigate, so let's get to it!

ASSEMBLING STAR WARS: SHATTERPOINT

So, I expected a normal week. After all, this time of year generally trends a bit slower here in northern Alabama as the weather is already pretty nice (besides dodging the usual thunderstorms or tornadoes). The week started out just as I anticipated, and I was able to get most of the miniatures assembled.

Then it just got super busy and I didn't have the time to get back to it the rest of the week. I'm not complaining, not by a long shot, but it did keep me from getting it done. Take a look and see what I've done so far:

It all went together fairly well. The most difficult miniatures were the droid trio and the Kalani. It's like one of Kalani's hips is higher than the other... weird. In any case, I just need to complete the second trio of droids and the miniatures will be finished. Then, it's on to the terrain. After that it'll be some paint. Not my strong suit anymore... age has brought wisdom, patience and understanding. Along with quickly tiring eyes, inability to sit for long periods, and time management problems. It's a whole thing, I'm sure you understand.

The goal was to get everything assembled, painted, and played before release. However, at this pace I may not make it. I will keep at it though! It's so funny... when I was younger, I could seemingly knock these out so quickly. I also just seemed to have so much more time! In any case, I'll hopefully get more of this done next week. I'm looking forward to playing!

DELIVERY?

I haven't provided an update on our delivery plugin for several weeks, so let's do that. After working with the developers for the better part of two months, we're really not much closer to a solution. The problem stems with the delivery radius as there is a strict 10-mile limit from our store. The plugin apparently has all of the required functionality but does not interact with our shopping plugin - WooCommerce.

We need the plug-in to provide a delivery option at checkout for those eligible. We 'also' need that delivery to not appear for customers outside of the 10-mile radius. It still doesn't do that correctly, which is especially frustrating because that was the whole reason to use this specific plugin solution to begin with. I cannot believe it's been this difficult - as they are selling it as a WooCommerce solution. You'd...think it would work with WooCommerce.

We'll give them a little more time to work it out, but I'm not as hopeful as I once was. If it ultimately falls through, I'll just go fishing again. There 'has' to be a good solution out there, I see too many stores with delivery for this to be an impossible problem.

NEW RELEASES

The highly regarded and amazingly deep Tainted Grail dropped this week. We have a bundle with all of the gameplay items, but we also have the base game and a few expansions as well - including the stretch goals box.

The Kickstarter launched Ragnarocks arrived as well. It's a family weight abstract strategy game that is quick to play, but has enough strategic elements to be entertaining for everyone.

51st State is back, this time we have the latest No Man's Land expansion as well. The Ultimate Edition contains all of the expansions in one box (including the No Man's Land expansion). 51st State is one of those games that just keeps coming back to new generations of gamers. It's survived as long as it has simply because it's that good.

We have a few other items to round out the new releases. My Hero Academia has a Class Reunion box that is chocked full of gaming goodies, from sleeves, dice, and exclusive art foils, plus a fistful of booster packs. The light and luck driven Dragonquest: Fantasy Dice Game is perfect in that slot between heavier games or just something to put on the table and roll some dice! I love these kinds of games from time to time. Finally, a product that's been around for some time but new here is Dungeon Crawl Classics Dice: Vello's Crystalized Creations. If you haven't heard of these before, it's like crazy dice. It contains the 'standard' dice, like d4, d12, d20, etc. Then, there are the "weird" dice that include d3, d7, d24, d30... definitely outside the norms of dice. These sets are so hard to find in distribution and we're happy to finally land a few sets here in the shop.
