Weekly Store Update: 22 September

It's always great to hit the road, but it's even better to get back - and we're back in the saddle again! Did you miss us? Well, we missed you! There's been quite a bit of catching up to do, but I think we have our sea legs back. Check out the new and restocked items we just added, and we have preorders ready to go too. Check it all out!

INTRO

Welcome to our weekly newsletter! For our new readers I'm Eric, and Wendy and I run Stone Valley Games. This newsletter is our way to share both local and world-wide gaming news of interest that popped up last week. It also provides our subscribers, both local and remote, some information on the going's on around here so everyone feels like part of the action. At the bottom of this newsletter we show you the restocks, new items, and preorders added to the store last week. It's not too difficult to navigate, so let's get to it!

THERE AND BACK AGAIN

It's great to be back in our comfort zone. Masters of our tiny universe and all that. Our main goal on our business trip this time was to present business cases to both cut down on overhead costs and to help with wholesale pricing. So, at the end of the day we didn't do as well as we were hoping in either area. It's not like we were lied to about our chances before we left, but the fine print had a lot to be desired.

And, like everything we do, we came away a bit smarter on how all of this works. Thinking back on the trip now, we would have done much better if we took this particular trip last year. The steadily rising interest rates and pressure on businesses over the last 13+ months have them hemmed in much tighter this year. Oh well, hindsight is always 20/20.

On the upside though, we have a slew of new connections to follow up with, points of contact with a few hard-to-find publishing houses, and more folks know about us now than a week ago. If I had to grade the trip, I'd give it a C+. Not as good as I'd like, but a smidge better than average. I'll take it.

STONEMAIER SLIPS

Quite a few people are excited for the latest release from Stonemaier Games - Expeditions. We're going to be carrying three different products: Expeditions (Ironclad Edition), Expeditions, and the Expeditions Natural Rubber Playmat.

The game was supposed to release today - and obviously that didn't happen. Instead, the game will release next Friday, the 29th. According to Stonemaier, the transport ship was stuck in the Panama Canal longer than planned. Likely excuse, right? 😂

There have been early release copies floating around out there, and if you're part of any board game groups on Facebook you've probably seen folks talking about the game. Everything we're hearing is quite good, and we're looking to step into that alternate history universe made popular by Scythe once again.

The way it's looking, for those who have ordered online, we'll have those prepared to hit the mail on 29 September - right on release day. Local customers can pick up on the 29th as well. Are you excited yet?!

NEW RELEASES

Let's talk about our exciting new releases that dropped this week! Some of these have been available for a while but are new here. This group includes the two solo adventures for the Call of Cthulhu RPG - Alone Against the Dark and Alone Against the Frost. I personally am a huge fan of solo RPGs, which give me a chance to play in between regular gaming sessions. Updated to 7th Edition, both of these only need the core rulebook to play. Additionally, both of these come with a free PDF emailed to you as I process your order.

Runequest has been publishing some "cults of" books over the last several months which provide fantastic information regarding their pantheons and other vital roleplaying information. For those looking to add detail to their games, these books will hit the spot! The newest release is The Earth Goddess, with The Lightbringers coming out a bit ago. Both of these titles will also garner you a free PDF emailed right to you if you order from us.

Dungeons and Dragons released their new adventure this week with Phandelver and Below - the Shattered Obelisk. Harkening back to the setting from the very first Starter Set back in 2014, players can now return to Phandalin and experience a brand new adventure. Check out a video highlighting some of the book's art:

To round up the new releases, Dixit is back with a brand-new Disney version. Harkening back to so many Disney highlights, it is sure to keep fans sated and with enough differences between this and the base version of the game, even long-time players will find something to enjoy here.

Finally, my personal favorite card game, Marvel Champions, jumps in with two new card packs: Angel and Psylocke. I don't know if it's been well advertised, but ever since this game released, I've noticed Fantasy Flight has been slowly making these hero decks more interesting and strategic. We're looking forward to how these two new heroes play!
