Weekly Store Update: 27 January
It's a wonderful time to be a board gamer, it feels very much like the Golden Years to us. With so many amazing games to choose from, the hard part is finding the time to play them all! We have some tidbits to share this week, but make sure you check out our New Year Sale! You should really jump on that before it fades away.
INTRO
Welcome to our weekly newsletter! For our new readers I'm Eric, and Wendy and I run Stone Valley Games. This newsletter is our way to share both local and world-wide gaming news of interest that popped up last week. It also provides our subscribers, both local and remote, some information on the going's on around here so everyone feels like part of the action. At the bottom of this newsletter we show you the restocks, new items, and preorders added to the store last week. It's not too difficult to navigate, so let's get to it!
NEW YEAR PROMOTION
We announced the New Year Promotion in last week's newsletter, and wanted to mention it again in case you missed it. After all, it'll be gone by the time next week's newsletter rolls around.

From now until midnight 31 January Central Time, use Coupon Code NEWYEAR in your cart to save 15% on orders over $100.00. One coupon code valid per customer, and it cannot be used in conjunction with other coupons. The coupon won't work with the Obsession board game / expansions but will work with everything else in the store. This is 15% on top of our already deeply discounted prices, so it's an insanely good deal!
WAIT...IT'S NOT SUNDAY!
You most likely noticed that this newsletter launched on Friday this week instead of Sunday. This will be the new release date going forward. So, instead of the beginning of the next week (Sunday), we'll be at the end of the work week. Kind of the same, right? Same, but different.
Since this is the first week with this new change, the games listed below will be a bit off as the majority of our new arrivals hit late Friday and Saturday. That means this will be a very light week for game intake. However, by next week things will synch up properly and we'll be rolling right along again.
HELPING YOU FIND YOUR PATH
With the recent OGL 1.1 and 1.2...debacle, yes, let's go with debacle, we have had a lot of new customer interest in Savage Worlds and Pathfinder. Then, when Paizo announced their OGR concept, the Pathfinder brand has really taken off. There's a whole community that wants to support an organization willing to indirectly sponsor an open gaming license for the masses. In complete transparency, we are one of those companies who have signed the OGR. As you may know, we've been kicking around our own roleplaying setting, and are no longer going the OGL route.
Now, we understand not all customers know about, or are even interested in all this hoopla. We are definitely not going to boycott any Dungeons and Dragons products, our decision to go OGR is as creators, not as retailers. However, with all of this interest the majority of Pathfinder 2nd Edition source books have quickly gone out of stock here and are in a reprint run at the publisher as they've going out of stock everywhere. It will be some time before we can get them back in (currently estimated as mid-April), but we do know of a resource that can help new players get the information they need now.
All of the rules are free on Archives of Nethys, along with their Player's Guide. It's a wonderful resource for those just getting into Pathfinder and may provide some great nuggets for veterans too. If you're short on books or would like more of a guided tour of the second edition of Pathfinder, I encourage you to check it out!
PAINTED INTO A CORNER?
We've mentioned before that we wanted to branch into miniatures paint, but just didn't know where to start. Well, we have a plan for that now.
Initially we'll have several paint kits and starter sets that can get anyone spun up quickly. That was the easy part, and those will start showing up in the next week or two. The more difficult decision was individual paints. There are just so many options! However, instead of going with Citadel or The Army Painter (which were our initial top two), we're most likely going with a completely new product in Duncan Rhodes' Two Thin Coats Paints.
If you know Duncan Rhodes, then you know that “two thin coats” is the best way to apply any paint on your miniatures! Now, you can take that philosophy to heart with Duncan’s signature Two Thin Coats paint line, consisting of premium acrylic paints for wargaming miniatures, offering:
- 60 Paint Colors, including metallics and technical paints
- Paints formulated specifically for painting miniatures
- Smooth, consistent coverage without losing detail
If we do pull the trigger on this, we would have these paints in stock 'sometime' in the second quarter (Q2) this year. It's a fairly large initial investment though, so we will continue to poll our in-store customers to gauge their interest. The most significant factor here is that these paints are more expensive than many of the other brands out there... but make up for it in their ease of use and practical application. So - again, just want to make sure folks will actually buy it 😀
