Weekly Store Update: 29 September
I see Halloween decorations going up all over the place, so it must be about that time. Do you have any favorite spooky games to highlight the season? Final Girl scratches that itch for us. INTRO
Welcome to our weekly newsletter! For our new readers I'm Eric, and Wendy and I run Stone Valley Games. This newsletter is our way to share both local and world-wide gaming news of interest that popped up last week. It also provides our subscribers, both local and remote, some information on the going's on around here so everyone feels like part of the action. At the bottom of this newsletter we show you the restocks, new items, and preorders added to the store last week. It's not too difficult to navigate, so let's get to it!
OLD SCHOOL ESSENTIALS AND IN-STORE PDFs
We have a lot of Old School Essentials, or OSE fans who have supported us thru the years - ever since the original Kickstarter actually. Back then Gavin was a one-man army, creator - publisher - distributor. Working in Europe, he eventually found a publisher in the United States to help with things on this side of the pond as it was just getting too big to handle alone. He chose Exalted Funeral to publish and distribute here.
Why the history lesson? Well, back in the beginning we worked out a deal with Gavin to house the PDFs on our servers. That way if someone ordered a book from us, the PDF would be automatic. However, after he transitioned the US activities to Exalted Funeral, he no longer allowed us to add new items - but our grandfathered items were okay. Over the last few weeks, we've started to receive reports that some of those old PDF links aren't working and after some investigation we realized it was true.
However, we are unable to fix the links associated with our servers. Again, due to the changing relationship with Gavin and Exalted Funeral over the years. We do, however, still have access to many of the PDFs from our ongoing partnership with Bits and Mortar. So, if you're having problems retrieving your Old School Essentials PDF from our servers, just shoot us an email and we'll work with you to get you your PDF from Bits and Mortar.
UPS GROUND SAVER OPTION - EXPLAINED
Back in the September 1st newsletter I wrote about UPS's answer to the post office's launch of the Ground Advantage shipping option. It was originally identified as the UPS Ground Saver option.
A few weeks later and after some more digging we have clarification. It looks like this "Ground Saver" option is the same thing as the UPS SurePost option we've been using for years. So, we don't have to change anything in our shipping software - the option is already there.
For those who may not know, SurePost is when the package originates with UPS, but sometime during the shipping process it is transferred to the post office. It's slower (as it passes from one company to another), but is more inexpensive than the regular UPS Ground method, and it allows UPS packages to be sent to PO boxes. Regular UPS Ground cannot do that.
As always, we'll keep an eye out for other options that will save you money on shipping costs. Trust us...we know they add up quickly!!
NEW RELEASES
As I mentioned in our newsletter opening, it was a slow week this week, at least for board games. We're still churning pretty heavily from the last Magic the Gathering set releasing a few weeks ago, but I digress.
You may have noticed we did launch some preorders this week, but our allocations have already been met - so no need to add them here. When it comes to our restock category, all of our restocks are scheduled to hit this weekend, so they'll be in next week's newsletter. Therefore, with one board game title releasing this weekend, it's:
Expeditions! I wrote about it last week, so don't want to dwell on it too much here - but we are so happy to have this in the store! Also, I'd like to mention that the playmat is...huge! I'm glad we still have our long shipping tubes, and these barely fit in them 😀 I'm sure they are expensive to ship though, but that makes it even easier for local customers to pick one up. In any case, I expect things to pick up for next week, and we'll see you then!
