By now you know if we're destined for more time indoors with board games or the inevitable start to Spring yardwork. You know which way we like it to go from year to year! For the store update we have some great info to share this week, and a sprinkling of new games and restock to check out too, so jump on in!
INTRO
Welcome to our weekly newsletter! For our new readers I'm Eric, and Wendy and I run Stone Valley Games. This newsletter is our way to share both local and world-wide gaming news of interest that popped up last week. It also provides our subscribers, both local and remote, some information on the going's on around here so everyone feels like part of the action. At the bottom of this newsletter we show you the restocks, new items, and preorders added to the store last week. It's not too difficult to navigate, so let's get to it!
PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT
I'm sure you're on it, but I wanted to remind you that Valentine's Day is right around the corner. There’s nothing like sitting down to a two-player game across the table from your special someone. THE OPEN GAME LICENSE UPDATE
I've been discussing Wizards of the Coast's Open Game License (OGL) 1.1 attempted modification and fallout for a few weeks. Almost immediately after we published last week's newsletter, Wizards of the Coast sent out an update stating they were going to leave the current OGL alone. Additionally, they released their own unique license called the System Reference Document (SRD) version 5.1 for D&D under Wizards' chosen Creative Commons license going forward. You can see a really comprehensive and well written article from The Washington Post here.
Even though Wizards has pivoted sharply, we're going to stick to our guns and focus our own Intellectual Property concepts on the Open RPG Creative License (ORC). Again, this isn't a decision made as retailers, but as creators. From a retailer perspective, we're still carrying Wizards' products and will continue to do so as long as customers continue enjoying them.
BORED ONLINE? BOARD OFFLINE JANUARY VIDEOS
Our friends at Bored Online? Board Offline! keep pushing out wonderful content. The videos released in January include unboxing, tutorial, and top 3 lists. And a Top 5 from 10 years ago... crazy! Just a 'few' things have changed in the hobby since then.

Interestingly, a few games on that 10 years ago list are still popular today. You know, some games are just timeless. Here in the store we call those 'evergreen titles'. Fun fact, Stonemaier Games, mentioned in that very video, keep on publishing those modern evergreen classics (looking at you Wingspan and Scythe). Check out their latest creation in the preorder section below.
In any case, you can see the videos Bored Online Board Offline released last month right here, lots of great stuff!
STUDIO AGATE DEAL
As retailers we have a lot of folks approach us with different gaming ideas. Some are full-fledged products they'd like us to carry, all the way to those folks with a few concepts looking for advice on how to proceed.
One of the first companies we bumped into years ago was Studio Agate, a French based tabletop roleplaying game creative house. We immediately liked their grittier take on the roleplaying scene, especially their Fateforge setting.
In any case, we have been working with Studio Agate for many years now and they often drop updates and news on us, and this latest bit we just had to share. Here's their message:
We dedicate our lives to creating these books because we love roleplaying and what it can do for people. It is this love that guides our action, and not mercantile thoughts. The recent events around the OGL convinced us to offer our core books in Pay What You Want.
The Fateforge Tetralogy is already complete and is available as Pay What You Want on DriveThruRPG. This book set won the silver Best Writing Ennie Award last summer. Enjoy!
Our Shadows of Esteren core book is also available in Pay What You Want. Discover a role-playing game that is all about exploring and expressing intense emotions around the table. Don't forget to download Book 0 which is available for free: it already contains everything you need to play with a summary of the rules, a presentation of the universe, 6 premade characters and three complete scenarios.
We thought this would be a fantastic way for folks to grab digital copies of those expensive paper products for a fraction of the cost. These fantastic creators should be seen by audiences far and wide, and this is a great way to check them out.
THE WRAP UP
Okay, enough news for this week! Below are the Restocks, New Items, and Preorders added to the shop last week. You can click on the item to learn more, and many of the products have review and gameplay videos so you can see the game in action. If you're visiting our page and you'd like to keep up with our giveaways, sales, new products, and articles like this one just create an account here. Once created you will be subscribed to our newsletter and become enrolled in our loyalty system, instantly earning 50 Stones that you can use on your very first order. A Stone? One Stone is equivalent to One Cent. That doesn't sound like much, but you earn 2 Stones for every dollar spent and 5 for each product review, so though it may seem small, those savings add up fast! Redeem your Stones upon checkout, and they can save you up to 10% off your cart total. Loyalty Matters!
