Weekly Store Update: 4 August
Gen Con just kicked off, and while we aren't participating this year it seems all of our distributors did. They won't stop picking on us for not visiting 😀 Hopefully you were able to make it this year! It hasn't been too crazy of a week overall, so only a few things to talk about. Oh, and the usual new items and a handful of preorders you might find interesting too. Come on and check it out!
INTRO
Welcome to our weekly newsletter! For our new readers I'm Eric, and Wendy and I run Stone Valley Games. This newsletter is our way to share both local and world-wide gaming news of interest that popped up last week. It also provides our subscribers, both local and remote, some information on the going's on around here so everyone feels like part of the action. At the bottom of this newsletter we show you the restocks, new items, and preorders added to the store last week. It's not too difficult to navigate, so let's get to it!
[WITH BONUS]
I thought it might be a good idea to share a store nuance that you probably haven't seen with other retailers. You may have noticed we add [with Bonus] or (with Promo) at the end of our products that have something free to go along with the main offering. While the majority of the bonus items are PDFs for our physical books, some are free expansions for board games too. The easiest way to narrow those down is to just perform a search for those keywords. The search also works well if you're looking for a certain game mechanic or even if you want a solo or 1 player game. As a helpful hint, if you put the search words in quotes, the system will find exactly those words. So "1 player" will load different results than 1 player.
END OF AN ERA
Well, it looks like it was a good idea that I started moving our Magic the Gathering singles from Deckbox to TCGPlayer. I'm about 42,000 cards in and need to move about 79,000 more... sigh. Anyway, we just received a note from the Deckbox site owner that they are going to mothball their marketplace. Instead of selling, they are going to focus on the site providing inventory management.
It was a good run! After only four years on the platform we became the #1 seller in the United States. Not only that, but we also ended up with a perfect seller rating - no unhappy customers. That's something we're very proud of!
We're relatively happy with TCGPlayer thus far, and we look forward to a long relationship with them. Looking forward, once we have the majority of our singles stood up at TCGPlayer, we'll turn on the PRO switch and make those cards available to our local customers. It's something they've been asking about. We're getting there!
CALL OF CTHULHU RPG HAS ARRIVED!
I have a quick follow-on from last week's story about bringing in the Call of Cthulhu roleplaying game. First of all, I'm happy to announce it actually arrived and was loaded up when I said it would be. Always refreshing. Then, I realized as I was loading the books into the system that they were all listed in Bits and Mortar too - so that means folks who order those physical products from us will also get the free PDF! Nifty and thrifty!
EXPEDITIONS
We have had the Ironclad edition of the board game Expeditions in our preorder section for a long time now. You might have noticed we just added the regular version to our preorders. Stonemaier Games also just announced the addition of an Expeditions playmat, so we added that too!
They also confirmed that everything should release on September 22nd, so we're getting really close now! We've seen the game out in the wild, and it's getting really good reviews. This is one I may have to actually scrape time out of my day to get to the table myself. It's looking great!
