Weekly Store Update: 6 October
Autumn is in full effect around here, and other than the inevitable losing battles with fallen leaves, it's definitely prime time to enjoy it all! I wonder if there's a market for a board game involving leaves changing colors... In any case, we're happy little shop keeps with plenty of recent restock and some new fun titles that hit this week as well. Anyway, once you get tired of raking, why not stop in and check it all out?
INTRO
Welcome to our weekly newsletter! For our new readers I'm Eric, and Wendy and I run Stone Valley Games. This newsletter is our way to share both local and world-wide gaming news of interest that popped up last week. It also provides our subscribers, both local and remote, some information on the going's on around here so everyone feels like part of the action. At the bottom of this newsletter we show you the restocks, new items, and preorders added to the store last week. It's not too difficult to navigate, so let's get to it!
A LITTLE FALL CLEANUP
You might have noticed that our website has one less category than it did last week. It all stems from our realization that we weren't selling any of our 'bling' items - stickers, coasters, pins and the like. It's probably because we generally send something like that with most orders. Well, except for with media mail shipments as the post office considers that marketing.
Regardless, we removed all of that from the webstore. Once that was done, I realized we only had two 'original' items left, which were taking up their own category. To get those out, I moved our dice tower and obelisk mini to the supplies section. That left the gift card alone in the menu. Since the gift card already has a nook at the bottom of the website, out it went.
So, quicker than two shakes, we had streamlined our site just a little bit more. More of what the people are looking for anyway, and that's key!
A LITTLE BIT OF A LOCKDOWN
Well, the online thieves have been hard at work, still trying to get their money for nothing and their games for free - using someone else's credit card information. We're not for it, I can tell you. So, we've recently implemented a new policy that states orders with mismatching billing and shipping addresses must also provide a phone number and valid email address so we can call and verify the payment information. Not doing so will lead to order cancellation and refund.
Trust me when I say we wish we didn't have to go to this extreme. However, our hand is being forced.
A few things. First, this is primarily for new customers. For those who've shopped with us before, I have your previous order information and can compare them to make sure it's you. The second thing is I've tweaked the checkout page a bit to make this new policy clearer to see.
We will continue to monitor the situation and will modify this policy as necessary. Understand that your security is way up there on our priority list, even if we've never met you. We do not want your credit card or PayPal information used by some thief to mess up your day. Life is hard enough already, right?
NEW RELEASES
We have a few titles releasing this week. First is The Lord of the Rings TCG's The Two Towers: Saga Expansion. It's the second boxed set in their continuing story from Fellowship of the Rings. This set is fundamentally the same as the small box & six-card pack releases that were available years ago. So, if you have the Two Towers from that era, you already own this. However, for newer players, this is a great way to pick up the story since the fellowship was broken - just like in the books.
Darwin's Journey and the Fireland Expansion are the other hot new games. This highly rated strategy game is fundamentally an innovative worker-placement at its core. Players can explore, correspond, gather, and dispatch repertoires found on the Galapagos islands to museums as part of Darwin's incredible journey. This was originally a successful Kickstarter, and this is the standard retail release.
