Weekly Store Update: 9 October

Make sure you check out our Board Game Giveaway! We've got a good one just in time for Halloween. On the news front we discuss our crazy upcoming schedule with business travel, holiday, and even a surgery timeline. Where did the lead-up time for all of that go?! As always, there's other things going on around here too along with the latest restock and new games. Why not drop in and take a load off?

INTRO

Welcome to our weekly newsletter! For our new readers I'm Eric, and Wendy and I run Stone Valley Games. This newsletter is our way to share both local and world-wide gaming news of interest that popped up last week. It also provides our subscribers, both local and remote, some information on the going's on around here so everyone feels like part of the action. At the bottom of this newsletter we show you the restocks, new items, and preorders added to the store last week. All in all it's not too difficult to navigate, so let's get to it!

OCTOBER BOARD GAME GIVEAWAY

We're getting ever closer to the drawing, so if you haven't signed up make sure you do it soon! For our giveaway this month we're going with a game perfectly fit for the Halloween time of year - a brand-new copy of Legends of Sleepy Hollow. Spooky and right on time!

In Legends of Sleepy Hollow, players take on the roles of four residents in a cooperative, miniatures-based campaign game full of secrets and twists. The players will have to work closely together to overcome their fear, unravel the mysteries of the glen, and become true Legends of Sleepy Hollow.

We will conduct the drawing on 22 October and notify the winner right away. It'll be at their front door in time for Halloween! Hey...it might be you!

THE OLD ONES RISE

I've mentioned often in these pages how much of a juggle it is keeping interesting products on hand and balancing that with the limited space in our small store. We go through a long, laborious process before adding a new product line. After all, once the line is in, it runs for a very long time. Things that languish are not helpful at all!

After toying with it for over a year, we are finally pulling the trigger on publisher Chaosium's Call of Cthulhu roleplaying game.

The main reason I had been waiting so long was the fear of obtaining all the books just in time to have them jump to the next edition. However, based on our communications with Chaosium, conversations with customers, and a look at the upcoming products being released it looks like this edition is here for several more years to come - at least.

We are going to slowly start bringing the books in. Because of the timeline going on around here that I'll talk about later in this newsletter, it may be weeks or longer before that process starts. However, I'm really excited about this and wanted to give you a head's up.

UPCOMING RELEASES

We've received several more shipping notices for some crowdfunded and popular board game projects and wanted to tell you about it.

You may not know, but we changed our policy regarding crowdfunded games and now add them once we have them on hand. (Like...we just added Sheol this weekend). With this policy it's more difficult to know exactly when they will be available to purchase. Here's a few tips that might help you out. We do list the "latest 20" games in our 'New on Our Shelves' scrolling row on the front page of the webstore. If you miss it there, we'll also be listing them in this newsletter on the week they release.

Here's the latest:

We just received shipping confirmation from Mindclash Games regarding their highly anticipated Anachrony line of games. Based on previous communications with them I had pushed the release out to early November. However, with this news there's a good chance we'll have this on the shelves before the end of the month. Fingers crossed.

On the list of 'other games expected to arrive before the end of the month', we just took care of the restock request for Obsession. As long as Dan holds to the shipping timeline he discussed with us last week we should be good to go.

A bit further down the line than a week or two, we've just submitted our address verification for Lands of Galzyr, which - like the other games on this list, is highly anticipated. With the address verification we never know for sure how long it will take...sometimes it's a few weeks and others it's a few months - but we now know it's very close to being distributed, which is awesome.

Last but not least, Van Ryder Games just requested our address verification for Final Girl Series 2 Wave 1. This was a very popular release for us under the original Series 1 game and we expect similar traction with this expansion. I believe we're signed up for both Series 1 and Series 2 products and will once again sell them as sets, not individual scenarios. This could still be a few months out - or even longer, but it's a good sign that things are moving.

STOREFRONT TIMELINE - OCT / NOV

I simply cannot believe how fast things are moving! As I've been talking about in the last few newsletters, there's lots of activity around here that will impact store operations. Let me break down the latest:

We are transitioning from business travel to vacation over the next few weeks. We'll be leaving on 10 October and returning 25 October. The storefront will be closed during that time. We will, however, have a skeleton crew checking on things daily. They will be working on influx, stocking the shelves, and taking care of web orders. If you are a local customer and you have preorders arrive there's a good chance we can coordinate for a pickup while my crew is at the store. Just know that I will be slow in responding on email or phone - but we can work it out.

The store will be open for a very few days that last week of October but closing again on Saturday as we prepare everything for my surgery scheduled for the end of the month.

Then November is a big question mark as I will be healing. The hours and days listed in our Google store listing is accurate and I've also updated the store hours on our webpage.

I don't know how the newsletter is going to go either. I will continue trying to get it out there, but if I miss a week or two you'll know why.

It's going to be interesting, and we appreciate all the well-wishers and prayers being sent our way during this time! We are always stronger together, and with my family around me I'm sure I'll be back up in no time!
